Skills Training Program
Yes, there is financial support for training! If, for example, employers aren’t hiring you because your certification is outdated, or you don’t have any at all, or you need to make a career change, then you may be able to access money to help with the cost of training that will result in employment. Currently, people just like you are accessing thousands of dollars for school and living costs, succeeding in their training and finding work. Very few applicants are turned down. - You live in the Burnaby area
- You are legally entitled to work in Canada
- You are unemployed and receiving Employment Insurance (EI), or
- You have received EI benefits that ended in the past three years, or
- You have received EI Maternity or Parental benefits that started in the past five years, or
- You are a Single Parent on BCEA or,
- You have BCEA PWD/PPMB designation, or
- You have a general disability designation.

- Are you having trouble finding a job with your existing certification?
- Can you show that the training you need will result in employment?
What costs can be covered by the program?
- Tuition, registration and most other training fees to a maximum total of $7,500 per Action Plan.
- Books and supplies.
- Living Support
- Dependent Care – licensed care facilities are preferred.
- Transportation costs
- Living away from home allowance
- Tools that are not “tools of the trade” and cost less than $250
- Tutoring and required Disability Supports to participate in training. – Program support maximums may apply.
Please Note: Financial Supports probably can’t cover all of your expenses and everyone contributes to the cost of their training, to the best of their financial ability.
